The carrier’s orders promise to deliver high cost-efficiency as well as a smaller carbon footprint.
Eurowings will go into the peak season in 2022 with its first new Airbus A320neo aircraft entering service with the carrier next spring. Further deliveries from the airline’s order for eight A320neos and five A321neo will follow in 2022 and beyond, with the first A321neo arriving in spring 2023. All aircraft will be powered by CFM LEAP-1A engines.
For months the airline has been preparing for the type’s arrival in collaboration with Eurowings Technik. “This milestone investment in our fleet is an important signal for all our customers, but also a vote of confidence by the Lufthansa Group in the future viability of Eurowings,” says Jens Ritter, chief operating officer of Eurowings. “We are making rapid progress on our chosen path toward low-emission flying – through significantly lower fuel consumption, correspondingly lower emissions and significantly less noise. This results in high-cost efficiency, so that the investments are accompanied by considerable savings in the long term,” Ritter continues. “Nevertheless, we remain committed to continuing our efforts in bringing Eurowings out of the crisis and into profitability.”
The airline’s A320neos will each be configured with 180 seats, while the A321neos will have 232 seats.
