Ambitious plans are in place to deliver growth and sustainability over the next three years.
Belgrade Airport operator VINCI has unveiled the latest stage of the airport’s extension and modernisation plan and celebrated its first-ever Airport Service Quality (ASQ) award, winning the 2020 ASQ for Europe in the “5 to 15 million passengers per year” category.
The new Pier C extension, with a total surface area of 12,000 m2 and smart flow management system, will be fully completed by the end of 2021. The airport has opened a revamped boarding area, including food and beverage outlets which showcase Serbian cuisine.
To aid its environmental goals, a waste treatment plant has also been recently delivered with the objective to recover 100% of the airport’s solid waste by the end of 2022. These are part of the programme by VINCI Airports in collaboration with VINCI Construction Grands Projets.
Also improving the airport’s environmental performance will be the construction of a 1MW self-consumption photovoltaic park, a wastewater treatment plant and a new natural gas power plant to replace heavy fuel oil.
Meanwhile, in addition to receiving its first ASQ award, the airport also achieved its first Airport Carbon Accreditation certificate. Building on this, VINCI Airports plans to complete Belgrade’s revamp in the next three years.
The objective is “to create a new airport hub in SouthEast Europe thanks to a 40.000m² extension of the passenger terminal, new boarding bridges and gates, the construction of an inserted runway and the complete renovation of the existing runway. These works will allow reaching a total capacity of 15 million annual passengers by the end of the concession”.
